The Clash.
I happened to fall in love with a pair of shoes today. I guess you could say that shoes are my “thing”, but then clothes and handbags would be my “thing” too. Once I saw these Sergio Rossi wedges I instantly had to have them, well if I had an extra $1,300 lying around.
Meet ‘Clash’, a geometric pattern wedge from the Radical Pattern story in the Sergio Rossi Spring/Summer 2013 collection.
I love the classic color palette of yellow, black, and white. But what makes it fun is the hammered brass on the back heel that adds another dimension. A cute wedge is crucial for the spring and this one can dress up an outfit of boyfriend jeans and a worn in tee so easily. You can see the silhouette of a pump in the heel which is a nice twist. Pairing this wedge with a sexy black dress or jumpsuit would be a fun option for date night. Lots of ways to wear this wedge, definitely wishing I could add it to my closet. (even though room for a new pair of shoes is non-existent)

New Threads for Minnie Mouse.
Disneyland Paris is celebrating their 20th anniversary! Well, the actual anniversary was in 2012 but they’ve extended the celebration through September of this year. To mark the start of the extended celebration, the park had a ‘Designers of Dreams’ runway show to showcase Disney character costumes re-imagined by top European designers. Nine designers took up the challenge to re-create runway looks especially for Disney characters.
Lanvin’s Creative Director Alber Elbaz created a custom-look for Minnie Mouse inspired by a runway look from the Fall 2012 collection (this one).
Hat designer Philip Treacy designed a Peter Pan inspired topper.
German designer Michalsky dreamed up a new gown for Cinderella.
Hopefully Minnie gets to wear her Lanvin dress for other special occasions. Her red-and-white polka dots are classic but this update from Alber Elbaz is really fun. Too bad Mickey didn’t get a new tux. Check out behind-the-scenes videos of the runway show and the making of the Lanvin dress. Here and here.
Cover Girl: Michelle Obama, Vogue April 2013.
Our First Lady, Michelle Obama has landed her second cover of Vogue. For round two she dons a blue shift dress by Reed Krakoff who has been one of her recent favorites. She wore custom looks by the designer for events during the President’s second inauguration. The FLOTUS wore pink Jason Wu for the first cover, another go-to designer for her. Shot by Annie Leibovitz, we see Michelle Obama with her newly cut bangs and frames her face with Kimberly McDonald earrings. The article spoke to how the First Family is leading by example and how the Obama’s are inspiring America.
The article penned by Jonathan Van Meter covers a variety of topics from the Obama’s parenting philosophy, details on the dynamic between Barack and Michelle, and some of the issues facing the President. Considering that Michelle is on the cover and how her fashion choices have captured a nation, I was a little surprised to read the article and find the focus mainly on the President. Vogue is a fashion publication, that does expose readers to a diverse range of topics, but there were only a couple of sentences towards the end of the article on fashion as it relates to the First Lady. I will say that the part of the article that included Hillary Clinton threw me for a loop, not sure how that was related to Barack and Michelle. Overall, I enjoyed reading the article, I love seeing positive people take a prominent position in the world.
Can’t wait to see more from the spread. Michelle looks so sleek in the Michael Kors Pre-Fall sweater and skirt.
Apparently Barack Obama is a fan of the Black Eyed Peas. Annie Leibovitz played some tunes in the background during the photo shoot and commented that he loved their song “Where Is the Love?”. And shout out to the Vogue March cover girl Beyoncé, the President compliments his wife in a way that us young people can relate to: “Michelle’s like Beyoncé in that song,” says the president. “ ‘Let me upgrade ya!’ She upgraded me.”

Currently Crushing::Obsessed with Vests.
This girl (me, obviously) is obsessed with vests.
Once I saw this Rebecca Taylor one I immediately fell in love.
Biker jackets were all over the Spring runways and I think the vest version is so chic but still cool. It’s a fun way to wear this hard/soft look in the rising temperatures of spring and summer. Vests are a great addition to your closet. They can make any outfit fresh and new. Vests are easy to dress up or down. You can wear a vest with a v-neck tee and skinny jeans for brunch with friends or throw on a vest over a cute floral dress for a nice dinner date. As with any jacket, you can’t go wrong with a neutral color. Creams, black, and grey are all go-to colors for a versatile vest. But you can also add some fun color to your outfit with an orange or hot pink vest. Can’t wait to grab a few vests to update my spring wardrobe. Will you be doing the same?

Runway Review. Saint Laurent Fall/Winter 2013.
Hedi Slimane is off in his own little world designing for the house formerly known as Yves Saint Laurent. While this is only his second collection for the line he promptly renamed Saint Laurent Paris (and then moved the design studio to Los Angeles…huh?), Slimane gave us ‘haute couture made grunge’ per Kristen Dunst who was one of the celebrities at the show. While his first collection for Saint Laurent was 70’s hippie rock chic, with wide brimmed floppy hats and flowy maxi skirts, this collection was quite the opposite. Fall/winter 2013 spoke to 1990’s Seattle grunge rather than the iconic motifs from the YSL collections of decades past. Think Courtney Love. The collection featured a plaid babydoll mini dress with a sweet Peter Pan collar, floral dresses with oversized boyfriend sweaters, lots of leather in biker jackets, mini skirts, slashed leggings. Many of the looks either were characterized by a jacket/grandpa sweater over a dress or a loose bow detail at the collar.
Monsieur Saint Laurent was one to push the envelope but his collections always had a classic element to them. I’ll admit, there were some cool looks in the show, but none of it was reminiscent of the house of Yves Saint Laurent. It reminded me of a Marc Jacobs or Alexander McQueen punk/grunge collection. I understand the YSL brand wants to capture a younger customer but they can’t forget who has the spending power. This new direction they have taken is moving them further away from the elite category with the likes of Chanel and Dior. In an effort to be different, Hedi Slimane did something that was not directional nor original. Sure all the cool LA girls will grab up the ripped leather leggings and oversized sweaters….but I’m pretty sure I can get all of that right now at Zara, ASOS, Topshop, etc, etc.

L’Officiel Hommes. Kanye West && Kim Kardashian.
The famous kouple couple Kimye is at it again. They are no stranger to the public lens, this time doing it in an editorial scene for the French men’s mag L’Officiel Hommes shot by Nick Knight for the Spring 2013 edition. The cover was released last week with a naked Kanye & Kim in a lover’s embrace.
The rest of the spread keeps the focus on Kanye, with clothes on. The spread is lengthy, featuring about 10 other shots. There is probably an editorial component, but nothing has been released yet. The parents-to-be look to be in love. Can’t wait to see their next editorial shoot, maybe with baby Kimye in tow?

‘Sparkle’ Movie premiere.
Stars came out shining for the LA premiere of ‘Sparkle’. The movie is a remake of the 1957 version features three sisters who form girl group and soon become Motown sensations, but fame becomes a challenge as the close-knit family begins to fall apart.
Star of the movie, Jordin Sparks wore a white strapless dress embellished with crystals by Chagoury Couture. She carried a petite Judith Leiber clutch and wore silver heels by Jimmy Choo. The 22 year-old has lost a lot of weight since we first met her back in 2007. Girl is working this dress. Love her smile and the back shot of this dress!
Apparently the American Idol winner is dating Jason Derulo who couldn’t make it to the premiere because he’s working in Australia. Jordin brought her parents as guests instead. How cute are they? She is a perfect blend of mom and dad.
Tika Sumpter rocked the heck out of a sexy red Marc Bouwer dress with a plunging neckline and high slit.
The presence of the late Whitney Houston was felt on the red carpet. ‘Sparkle’ was her pet project. Whitney acquired the rights to re-make the film in 2000 and has been working on the project since then. As the star of 1992’s ‘The Bodyguard’ Whitney was looking to this film as being her acting comeback.
“It’s bittersweet. I’m here to celebrate, but I have my Kleenex,” said gospel legend BeBe Winans, a close family friend who sang at Houston’s funeral. “I can hear her words in my head, that she’s proud, that she accomplished something people didn’t think she could accomplish.”
I’ve heard good reviews of the movie so far. Jordin and Whitney Houston can blow so I’m looking forward to hearing them sing. Get out and go see this movie!
Return to Spiceworld — 2012 London Olympics.
Ahhhh! There is almost nothing in this world better than a Spice Girls reunion. London, the host country of the 2012 summer Olympic games, brought out their best stars for the closing ceremony. The Spice Girls were definitely highly anticipated and the highlight of the whole show. The 90s girl group performed their hits “Spice Up Your Life” and “Wannabe” on sequined taxis. Their performance was the most talked about event per minute on Twitter this weekend.
All 5 girls looked fabulous. Baby Spice Emma Bunton rocked a cute pink mini with structured shoulders by Maggie Cooke. Mel C. stayed true to her Sporty Spice persona and wore a white jumpsuit with some fab silver wedge sneakers. Geri Halliwell didn’t wear a union jack dress as many had hoped but did include a nod to her country in the bustle of her red dress by Suzanne Neville. A ginger who wears red definitely gets points in my book. Mel B. looked stunning in a gold sequin jumpsuit by Zuhair Murad. I was glad to see how fab her body looked and I’m obsessed with Scary Spice’s golden brown wavy hair. Last but not least, Victoria Beckham wore a custom made Giles Deacon dress that was inspired by look 3 from the Fall 2012 collection. Posh Spice was always the fashion diva and performed flawlessly with a flowing train.
Listening to my Spice Girls playslist all week and crossing my fingers for more reunions.
