Collab Alert :: Nike x Riccardo Tisci

February 11, 2014

nike-riccardo-tisci

Air Force 1s making a comeback? Givenchy designer/creative director and Kimye BFF Riccardo Tisci is doing his part to make sure that happens with his upcoming collaboration with Nike. The line will be called Nike RT (RT for Riccardo Tisci) with a launch date of March 1st. The initial launch will feature the kicks in a white colorway and a black version will follow on April 1st.

Riccardo Tisci x Nike Joan Smalls

Vogue spoke with Tisci about the collaboration for their February 2014 issue which is on stands now. A preview from the mag shows Joan Smalls (obsessed with her!) draped over Riccardo’s shoulders showcasing what we can expect from the collection. I love how creative the shot is and love the hair & makeup on Joan. Can we say beat?

“The shoe is universal yet somehow very personal,” said Tisci. “I travel all over the world, and I see people wearing the Air Force 1, and they wear it in so many different ways. And so I was thinking, what is the essence of the Air Force 1? And how do I take that essence and make my own statement? For me the Air Force 1 is not about gender, it’s not about a particular city, nor is it about a certain style. The community decides. It’s democratic. It’s love.”

Luckily for AF1 aficionados, Vogue describes the collection as staying “true to the cool urban roots of the original”. I’m loving the revamp of this classic that was so hot in the early 2000’s.  Maybe we can get Nelly and Paul Wall to do a remix? Actually considering snapping up a pair of these high-fashion Air Force 1s. Hopefully the sneakerheads will be out in full force to support this collab.

Cover Girl: Michelle Obama, Vogue April 2013.

Michelle Obama Vogue April 2013

Our First Lady, Michelle Obama has landed her second cover of Vogue. For round two she dons a blue shift dress by Reed Krakoff who has been one of her recent favorites. She wore custom looks by the designer for events during the President’s second inauguration. The FLOTUS wore pink Jason Wu for the first cover, another go-to designer for her. Shot by Annie Leibovitz, we see Michelle Obama with her newly cut bangs and frames her face with Kimberly McDonald earrings. The article spoke to how the First Family is leading by example and how the Obama’s are inspiring America.

michelle-obama article image

The article penned by Jonathan Van Meter covers a variety of topics from the Obama’s parenting philosophy, details on the dynamic between Barack and Michelle, and  some of the issues facing the President. Considering that Michelle is on the cover and how her fashion choices have captured a nation, I was a little surprised to read the article and find the focus mainly on the President. Vogue is a fashion publication, that does expose readers to a diverse range of topics, but there were only a couple of sentences towards the end of the article on fashion as it relates to the First Lady. I will say that the part of the article that included Hillary Clinton threw me for a loop, not sure how that was related to Barack and Michelle. Overall, I enjoyed reading the article, I love seeing positive people take a prominent position in the world.

Can’t wait to see more from the spread. Michelle looks so sleek in the Michael Kors Pre-Fall sweater and skirt.

Apparently Barack Obama is a fan of the Black Eyed Peas. Annie Leibovitz played some tunes in the background during the photo shoot and commented that he loved their song “Where Is the Love?”. And shout out to the Vogue March cover girl Beyoncé, the President compliments his wife in a way that us young people can relate to: “Michelle’s like Beyoncé in that song,” says the president. “ ‘Let me upgrade ya!’ She upgraded me.”

André Leon Talley and Tom Ford. Such a pair, these two. They have a quick chat about changing diapers, Rihanna as Tom’s inspiration, and of course fashion. Part of Mondays with Andre, the weekly feature on Vogue.com.

Haute Covers :: Penelope Cruz. US Vogue June 2011.

May 22, 2011

Just got my copy of the latest issue of Vogue. I am absolutely in love with the cover. Penelope Cruz just looks amazing. Not always a fan of the close-up covers but this one is spot on. Mario Testino shot this spread where the new mom wears summery looks from Dolce & Gabbana. The cover is so simple and Penelope’s freckles…there’s just something about them that I love. The sexy white lace Dolce & Gabbana captures a clean, crisp, and cool summer. Pick up your copy today and go see Penelope Cruz and Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Carribean 4: On Stranger Tides.

Model Chronicles. Alana Zimmer.

April 13, 2011

Alana Zimmer in Metal 23

I’m not super into models, don’t know names or stats but there are a few that catch my eye. Alana Zimmer is one of them. I just love her look. I think it’s the eyes.

Alana was born in Ontario in 1987. She was discovered while working at a restaurant in Canada (classic). In September 2006, she made her catwalk debut at the Spring shows in New York, Milan, and Paris. She walked for Dolce & Gabbana, Proenza Schouler, and Chanel. Soon after WWD named her as a face to watch and Style.com honored her as one of the Top Ten models of spring 2007. Alanna has closed a number of shows, including Jill Stuart, Louis Vuitton, and Marc Jacobs. She also has recently walked in the haute couture shows for Jean Paul Gaultier and Armani Prive in Paris. She’s been in Vogue numerous times, covering most of the international editions too. If you look closely, you’ll find her in some shots on the Bergdorf Goodman site. Ps. – Alana is represented by Ford models. Thanks to Style.com for all the amazing shots of her.

What you didn’t know about Anna Wintour…

April 4, 2011

Anna Wintour in Jeans

Fashionista.com did a story on the latest episode of Bloomberg Game Changers that featured none other than Anna Wintour, long-time Editor in Chief of Vogue. The show profiles industry leaders and their journey to the top. La Wintour chooses her appearances carefully, choosing to not appear on the show. People close to Anna Wintour were interviewed instead, including buddy Vera Wang, Wintour’s first assistant Laurie Schechter, and former Vogue publisher Tom Florio.

Check some intriguing tidbits on Anna Wintour:

  • She dropped out of high school. (news to me!)
  • Wintour’s staff at British Vogue coined the nickname “nuclear Wintour.”
  • Laura Schechter says she lost eight pounds in two weeks because of the “constant” work. “She tells you what she wants and she’s not going to tell you how to do it,” Schechter said.
  • On her first cover of US Vogue as EIC she paired a $10,000 top with $40 jeans–which was revolutionary at the time.

An Unlikely Collaboration.

December 4, 2010

Or is it?

Apparently Diddy Dirty Money’s Last Train to Paris made a little stop before hitting the printing press for its December 14th release. The long-awaited album features appearances from some heavy-hitters in fashion, most notably André Leon Talley and editor-in-chief Anna Wintour of Vogue. Other guests with speaking parts on the album include Tommy Hilfiger, Marc Jacobs, Issac Mizrahi, and Zac Posen.

My favorite intro comes from Marc Jacobs saying, “What’s up? This is Marc Jacobs and you’re rocking with the best. Last Train to Paris, get on or get off.”

Diddy made calls to his fashion friends and invited them to the studio to record during Fashion Week last year. “For my part, I recited words by James Baldwin, and Diddy respected it enough to leave it intact. Last Train to Paris is totally twenty-first-century Diddy cool,” says André Leon Talley. Vogue has supported this fashion-inspired project in the form of a fashion spread last February featuring model Natalia Vodianova with Diddy, appropriately titled Last Train to Paris. Seems as though Diddy and Anna Wintour are quite friendly, seen above dancing at the Met Gala Party and laughing at a Macy’s appearance on Fashion’s Night Out below.

Not sure who the target demographic is for this record but it will be interesting to see how it does. Shouts to Diddy for featuring designers/fashion moguls on his latest music project. Click here for the album preview.

Haute Covers. Victoria Beckham–Vogue Turkey August 2010.

Victoria Beckham-Vogue Turkey August 2010

Victoria Beckham. August Vogue Turkey cover.

For some time now I’ve had a girl crush on Victoria Beckham. It’s nothing too serious but I just love her style…it’s so posh. [had to do it…] She is just always well put together. From running errands with her boys or a red carpet appearance with the hubby–Mr. David Beckham [who isn’t too shabby either], Posh Spice knows how to step out in style. CONTINUE READING
