Academy Awards 2014. Oscars Red Carpet Love.

March 3, 2014

Last night was the culmination of awards season. All eyes were tuned to the Oscars red carpet and the following show. Basically a marathon of fashion, suspense, and laughs. Ellen definitely brought the funny in an unconventional way. Of course I had my favorites on the red carpet….keep scrolling to find out who I loved.

Sandra Bullock in Alexander McQueen.

Sandra-Bullock-Oscars-2014

Sandy brought a classic elegance to the red carpet. This stunning midnight blue McQueen gown is beautifully draped. The sweetheart neckline is just right. The Lorraine Schwartz jewels are simple yet fun. I love how her hair is swept to the side. An overall good look for Sandra B.

Kate Hudson in Versace Atelier.

Kate is slaying this red carpet y’all. And she was just a presenter last night! She upstaged most of these nominated actresses with this gorgeous retro reminiscent gown. Kate Hudson wears white on the red carpet like no other. (correctly, ladies. take note.) The plunging deep-v balanced with the strong shoulder open back cape detail?! What?! Killed. It.

Olivia Wilde in Valentino.

Pregnant women take note. This is how you do a red carpet when rocking the baby bump. Olivia Wilde just looks so good in this Valentino 2014 Pre-Fall black & white number. The open back and white peek-a-boo detail set the black off so nicely. I love this mod look that is  so definitely modern. Hair and jewelry are nice compliments to the dress. Her eyes are set off by the retro chic cat-eye. She looks comfortable too so mom & baby win!

Lupita Nyong’o in Prada.

LupitaNyong'o.Prada

Lupita does it again! This time in a stunning Prada gown custom-made for her by Muccia Prada. Lupita described the dress as Nairobi blue as it reminds her of the blue skies of her homeland. How can you not love this color on her? She was definitely the princess of the night with her headband and flowing skirt. She danced with Pharrell, paid for a pizza in Clarins lip gloss, and won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in ’12 Years a Slave’. What an amazing night for her. Can’t wait to see what else is in store for Lupita!

One Day London Premiere. Anne Hathaway in Alexander McQueen.

August 28, 2011

My second favorite style-icon (after SJP of course) these days might just have to be Anne Hathaway. With outings like this on the regular, I can’t help but have her at the top of my list. Here she is in Alexander McQueen, 2012 Resort at the London premiere of her new movie One Day.

She looks amazing with the soft Marcel waves, clean makeup, and simple pink lip. The white lace is so pretty. The tea length is hard to wear for most women but Anne pulls it off perfectly. It’s not short and it’s not long but can be done if you carry it right. She accessorizes with a few simple bangles and a coveted Alexander McQueen skull clutch. Love it!

Met Gala 2011 — Hits && Misses.

May 3, 2011

Last night was the 63rd annual Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. Also known as the Met Gala for short, this event always boasts exciting themes and feels like the Oscars of the fashion world. The event this year was the kick-off to the new exhibit honoring the late Alexander “Lee” Mcqueen. We’ve been talking about McQueen all weekend since Kate Middleton married Prince William in a gown designed by Sarah Burton, the new creative director for the line. The exhibition celebrates Mcqueen’s work from 1992 at Central Saint Martins to his final runway collection presented after his death last February. Alexander Mcqueen: Savage Beauty will be on display at the Met until July 31st.

There were so many great looks, I wish I could show them all.
Here are my top hits and misses of the night.

Hit. Zoe Saldaña.
[in Calvin Klein]

On a night when most people were going for over-the-top, Zoe went simple and couldn’t be more perfect. Her sorbet dress is refreshing amongst the sea of crazy. (you’ll see below)

Miss. Rihanna.
[in Stella McCartney]

Surprise, surprise…I’m not feeling Rihanna’s look. I like the hair and earrings…just change the dress.

Hit. Diane Kruger.
[in Jason Wu]

When is Diane ever a miss on the red carpet? Never.
That leg she’s giving is so fierce and I love the red lip with the hair swept to the side.

MISS. Andre Leon Talley.
[in a huge purple cape]

I don’t really have any words. I love ALT as much as the next but no….

Hit. Ginnifer Goodwin.
[in Topshop]

Who knew Topshop looked so good?? I love color and silhouette of this dress.
Ginnifer is working it though with her hair, accessories, and makeup.
I love the shoes.!

Miss. Fergie.
[in Marchesa]
Not sure what look Fergie is going for here…but it’s not working.
The color and the fit are really killing this look.

Hit. Ashley Olsen.
[in vintage Christian Dior Haute Couture]

Didn’t see Ashley’s arrival picture until today and it couldn’t be better.
This vintage Dior is so stunning on her.

Miss. Chrissy Teigen.
[in Chris March from Project Runway]

Not sure why John Legend would let his girlfriend go out in this…I think this is a fail on so many levels.

Remembering McQueen.

February 11, 2011

The fashion world is remembering one of it’s own. Today marks the one year anniversary of Alexander “Lee” McQueen’s death. The British designer for Alexander McQueen shocked almost everyone when the news hit that he had taken his own life. His designs were often dark and twisted and he loved to use skull motifs. Alexander McQueen was not for the mainstream but the work he produced is still to be admired.

Lee McQueen, your talents are truly missed.

Like a Star.

January 26, 2011

British singer Corinne Bailey Rae looks so chic at the InStyle Best of British Talent BAFTA party. (try saying that three times fast.) On her way into the soiree she poses with fellow Brit Will Young who won the first season of “Pop Idol”, the UK’s version of American Idol.

She is wearing an Alexander McQueen dress which is so appropriate since he is the British designer still fresh on our minds after passing away a year ago. The long-sleeve black satin dress is detailed with gold embroidery at the top.  She exudes elegance without trying too hard. Her hair is so beautiful in those natural curls. The makeup is flawless. I love the gold eye shadow that perfectly fits with the dress and makes her face light up. The natural lip is a nice simple touch. The dress stands out so I like how she keeps makeup and accessories simple.

Glad to see Corinne Bailey Rae attending events. She is definitely one of Britain’s best. At the moment I’m loving her rendition of Bob Marley’s “Is this love”. Looking forward to more good music from her.
